SEPANG, 27 September 2023 – Malaysia has announced a 14-man strong team of youth and experience in their pursuit of success at the inaugural three-day FIA Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship (APMC), which will be held at Sepang International Circuit from September 29.
In making the announcement, Malaysia team captain Jazeman Jaafar said the squad has a good mix of talents and experience drivers; giving the team an ideal foundation for building team spirit; and sharing of knowledge and experience amongst them. “I am confident with the capability of every member –we have the chance of collecting
strong results and able to achieve target of the highest tally with the advantage of local knowledge,” said Jazeman, who is Malaysia’s top racing driver with experience competing in the Asian and European Le Mans Series, FIA World Endurance Championship and various Formula series.
Making the biggest number for the contingent is an eight-man member for the karting competition which included newly-crowned Asian junior karting champion, Katrina E and vice champion, Hendra Ade Putra for the sprint races for the junior class. The Cadet category will feature Ethan Ng and Michael Lederer; while Malaysia’s
representatives for the Senior category are Nik Iruwan Bik Izani and Mohamed Feroz Fezril for the sprint races.
Aydan Khaliq Muhammad Hafiz and Adele Lew Zhi Yu will be representing Malaysiafor the Karting Slalom.
For the rally competitions, Malaysia has put faith in three driving partnerships; with veteran Sutan Mustaffa Salihin partnering navigator Victor Cheong; and another featuring a young 21-years old driver Ibrahim Saladin, who will be supported by his trusted navigator, Arish Qutb. The third car will be a partnership of Ezamin Ezham
Ismail and Fazrul Akmal Khalid.
The auto gymkhana, which is a test of driving skills around planted obstacles, will have Cameron Kechendai James, Amaresh Malakar Choudhury and lady driver Ng Aik Sha donning the Malaysian colours; while for the e-sports challenge, it will be Muhammad Naquib Nor Azlan and Imran Zuhaili.
Sharing Jazeman’s optimism on the competence of the national athletes, Motorsport Association of Malaysia (MAM) President, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir also expressed confidence that the athletes would be perfect ambassadors for the country as Malaysia aspires to show to the world class motorsport facilities available in the country and
warm hospitality of its people.
“The national athletes are the best of what they do; and we expect them to face an equally capable challenge in their international counterparts. We look forward not just an exciting showcase of motorsports brilliance and top performance; but also a displayof sportsmanship and a bond whilst promoting mutual understanding and solidarity
amongst competitors,” said Tan Sri Mokhzani.
Some 171 competitors from 23 countries will be competing at the APC, which organized by a collaboration of ASNs to allow a lower-cost access to an event that brings the best in the region within the disciplines of sport in the event. It is envisioned that this will allow access to a bigger platform of recognition to participants, teams and
drivers in their ongoing efforts to race in an international platform.
